A chiropractor asesses the mobility of the back, neck, joints and muscles, and the nervous system that controls the muscles. Decreased mobility (blockade) is treated with a high velocity, low amplitude thrust ("adjustment") applied on a vertebra or joint. Normal mobility is hereby restored and the nervous system is allowed to recover. Chiropractic involves the musculoskeletal system and focuses on mobility and functionality of the elements. The difference between AVOM and chiropractic is that AVOM focuses on anatomy and chiropractic focuses on functionality.
