Acupuncture is a part of traditional Chinese medicine, and assumes a circulation of energy in the body through channels called meridians. The acupuncturist places thin needles subcutaneously at fixed points along these meridians, with the intention of restoring energetic disturbances. Thereby acupuncture treatment can contribute to pain relief. Many scientific studies and experiments have been done regarding the efficacy of acupuncture. The results are contradictory.
